Polhovskoy Maidan is another center of manufacturing nesting dolls. It is located in the South-West of Nizhni Novgorod region. Since ancient times people here pursued crafts that are connected with handling wood, they made toys including turning ones – samovars, birds, piggy banks, salt-cellars, apples. The first matryoshka dolls were made with poker-work as those of Sergiev Posad, then inhabitants turned to painting wooden matreshka with plant pattern.
