In the iconographic studios of Sergiev Posad craftsmen started to paint nesting dolls among with icons. For instance, in the Busigin’s studio such nesting dolls as “Ermak” and “Stepan Rasin” were painted. Iconographer D.N. Pitshugin painted the nesting doll “The types of the Baltic”. Iconographer Sorokin’s sons also started painting nesting dolls. Brothers V.S. and P.S. Ivanovs who owned the most famous studio first used to make framework for icons. Many hereditary matreshka-painters from Sergiev Posad were more or less connected with the local iconographic school.
