In their first two decades Russian matryoshka dolls were very various. To the first group the nesting dolls belonged that were made by professional painters in the Russian style, putting it broader – in the style Modern. It was first of all the early matreshka painted by S.V. Malutin a bull-calf in chamberlain clothes with fine graphic pattern, the serie of matryoshkas-boyars and the so-called Vrubel-nesting doll with poker-work design in modernist style.
